Final Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society concert of the season at Elisabeth Lahti Library April 26

Indiantown, FL – Saturday April 26 at Elisabeth Lahti Library, 15200 SW Adams Ave, Indiantown at 3pm, the Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Orchestra will present a free concert of classical guitar selections, running the gambit from Renaissance to Modern and serious to folksy arrangements. No tickets or reservations are needed.

The volunteer amateur orchestra is composed of many of the area’s teachers as well as students and has been playing together for two years in the community, performing at libraries and area nursing homes. Conductor Jamie Thomas has been with the orchestra for the past year.

Current orchestra members are Rowdy Carlton, Joette Giorgis, Ed DePool, Al Orlando, Bill Rice, Jay Harris, Sarah Coleman, Ann Ashworth, Jane Helsing, Freeman Sherrill, Bob Swinton, BJ Panong, Connor Shann and Jan Wissmuller.

Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society concert with Dr. Zachary Johnson at Blake Library January 11

Dr. Zachary Johnson will perform a one-hour concert Saturday, January 11 at 3:00 pm in the John F. Armstrong Wing at the Blake Library, 2351 SE Monterey Rd, Stuart, FL, in association with the Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society. No tickets or reservations required.

Dr. Zachary Johnson is a young Sarasota-based classical guitarist whose talent has already been recognized with numerous awards. He has performed in venues across the United States including Yale’s Sprague Memorial Hall, New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall, Northeastern University’s Fenway Center, San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s Recital Hall, and as a selected performer for the Stetson International Guitar Festival.

The Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society is a community for classical guitar enthusiasts to promote appreciation of the classical guitar, provide opportunities for guitarists of all levels to meet and play together, and to sponsor professional concerts. Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society concert series continues Nov. 16 at Hobe Sound Public Library

The second in a four-part series of concerts held September 2013 through April 2014 in partnership with the Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society and the Martin County Library System takes place Saturday, November 16 at 3:00 pm at the Hobe Sound Public Library, 10595 SE Federal Highway, Hobe Sound. The one-hour concert is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.

The November 16 performer Jan Wissmuller will focus on the music of Fernando Sor (1778-1839). Sor, described by at least one contemporary as the “Beethoven of the guitar,” was among the greatest composers for the instrument during its first great period.

Jan Wissmuller came to Florida in 2010 by way of New England and California. He studied music at MIT, the University of Toronto and Harvard University and has taught music theory and composition at Boston University. He was an active member of the Ventura County Classical Guitar Society and is the current Secretary for the Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society.

In partnership with the Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society, the Martin County Library System presents a new concert series beginning September 28 and continuing on November 16, January 11, 2014 and April 26, 2014. Free and open to the public, tickets are not required.

First in the series on Saturday, September 28, Rowdy Carlton presents a contrast in both geography and romanticism centered on the differences between Francisco Tarrega (1852-1909), the earliest of the romantic guitar composers, and Brazil’s late romantic composer Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959).

Rowdy Carlton has studied classical guitar since 1990. He received a full scholarship for study from 2006 – 2009 from internationally-renowned guitarist Constantinos Jaferis. He shared the stage on several occasions with Jaferis, performing works by the great composers as well as Carlton’s own transcriptions. He also taught guitar at Bach’s Children Music School in Stuart from 2004 – 2011, where he now serves as artistic director. He is a founding member and president of the Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society.

Martin County Library System continues its partnership with the Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society in presenting classical guitar concerts at several of its libraries with “A Spring Bouquet for Classical Guitar,” the final concert in the five-part series, 2:00 p.m. March 24 at the Hobe Sound Public Library.

 

Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society member Jan Wissmuller will perform a one-hour program of works by Joplin, Sor, Weiss and Villa-Lobos, as well as Japanese and traditional Irish pieces.

 

Jan Wissmuller came to Florida in 2010 by way of New England and California. WHAT:                 Classical Guitar Concert Series – Concert Four:  José Luis Puerta

 

Martin County Library System continues its partnership with the Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society in presenting classical guitar concerts at several of its libraries with the fourth concert in the five-part series, featuring José Luis Puerta, 2:00 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Blake Library in Stuart. Free tickets are required and available for pickup at the Blake Library beginning Jan. 30. No telephone reservations will be accepted.

Included in the hour-long program, with intermission, will be pieces by J.S. Bach, Kaspar Mertz, Joaquin Rodrigo, Manuel Gregorio Tavarez, Joaquin Turina, Sergio Assad and Mauro Giuliani.

José Luis Puerta began his guitar studies in Escuela Libre de Música de San Juan, Puerto Rico, later studying in the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico.  He graduated cum laude in June of 2006 and was awarded the Guitar Department medal for the most outstanding guitar student of the year.  José  Luis studied for his Master’s degree at the University of Arizona with Professor Thomas Patterson and currently teaches guitar in the Tucson area.  In 2010 he was a finalist at the Concurso Nacional de Guitarra in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.  He has performed in Canada, Spain, United States, Mexico and Puerto Rico.  Currently he is pursuing his Doctor’s degree at the University of Arizona while keeping an active performing and teaching career.

Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society members Rowdy Carlton, and Jan Wissmuller will perform a program of solos and duets for the classical guitar.  The music was written by Spanish composers of the 19th and early 20th Century, and includes Fernando Sor’s great duet “Souvenir de Russie.”

Christmas Around the World

 

Martin County Library System continues its partnership with the Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society in presenting classical guitar concerts at several of its libraries with Christmas Around the World, the second concert in the five-part series, 2:00 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Robert Morgade Library located on the Chastain Campus of Indian River State College, 5851 SE Community Drive, Stuart. The concert is free. Because of limited seating, tickets are required and available for pickup at the library beginning Dec. 3.

 

The concert features performances by Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society members Joette Giorgis, Rowdy Carlton, Luis Ernesto Rivera, Robert Swinton and Jan Wissmuller with guest vocalist Cynthia Inklebarger. Hear traditional Christmas carols from many different countries played on renaissance guitar, South American charango, Neapolitan mandolin, American mountain dulcimer, and modern classical guitar.

Classical guitar concert series begins October 8

WHAT:            Classical Guitar Concert Series – Concert One:  Rowdy Carlton

 

Martin County Library System is partnering with the Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society to present a series of classical guitar concerts at several of its libraries in October, December, January, February and March, beginning with an October 8 performance by Rowdy Carlton at the Elisabeth Lahti Library in Indiantown. 

Rowdy will play pieces by Isaac Albeniz, Augustin Barrios, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Constantinos Jaferis as well as one of his own compositions.

The concert is free and open to the public.  No tickets or reservations are needed.

Rowdy Carlton has studied classical guitar since 1990. In 2005, he submitted a composition to internationally renowned guitarist, Constantinos Jaferis, which resulted in a full scholarship for study from 2006-2009.  He had the opportunity to share the stage on several occasions with Constantinos, performing works by the great composers as well as Rowdy’s own transcriptions.  Rowdy taught guitar at Bach’s Children Music School in Stuart from 2004-2011 where he now serves as artistic director.  He is a founding member and treasurer of the Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society.
