Martin County Library System Press Releases

Katie Adams’ Make Believe Theater brings Florida Folk Tales to two libraries Feb. 2

For immediate release:  January 29, 2013
Contact:  Susan Opasik, Martin County Library System, Public Relations, 772-463-2863

Katie Adams’ Make Believe Theater will present “Florida Folk Tales” at two Martin County libraries Saturday, February 2: 11 a.m. at the Robert Morgade Library, 5851 SE Community Drive, Stuart, and 3 p.m. at the Elisabeth Lahti Library, 15200 SW Adams Avenue, Indiantown.

The backwoods of old Florida meander through your mind’s eye as Katie Adams tells stories from Florida’s cracker heritage. A raccoon that makes wishes come true . .  A young fool who makes the cattle rancher’s daughter laugh . . . A one-eyed fish that saves an old woman from robbers. These characters and more inhabit the captivating, humorous tales from Florida’s folklore. Props, costumes, audience participation, and singing add color to these “gator tales.”

A Belle Glade Culture Event for kids, Katie Adams’ “Florida Folk Tales” is brought to you by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc., to complement the We Were Here Viva Florida 500 traveling exhibition presented by the Lawrence E. Will Museum: A Museum of the Belle Glades, on display at the Robert Morgade Library March 4-23. Additional thanks go to the Southeast Florida Archaeology Society for their support of all We Were Here events.
