Professor Farley discusses Flagler’s Florida railroads Feb. 25

Robert Farley, Indian River State College professor of history, presents “Henry Flagler’s Florida Railroads” on Monday, February 25 from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. in the John F. Armstrong Wing at the Blake Library. Professor Farley discusses how entrepreneur Henry Flagler rapidly expanded the state of Florida in the late 1800s and early 1900s by bringing in middle-class America through the creation of a railroad system. The event is free and open to the public.

A part of the Martin County Library System’s Chautauqua South arts and education series, the event is sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc. The Blake Library is located at 2351 SE Monterey Rd., Stuart.

Four-Month History Series, Focus on the Treasure Coast, Begins July 21 at Hoke Library

Hoke Library History Series Beginning July 21 Focuses on the Treasure Coast

Professor Ronald Grenville Frazer will present a four-part history series, Focus on the Treasure Coast, 10:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 21, Sept. 15, Dec. 1 and Feb. 9 at the Hoke Library, 1150 NW Jack Williams Way, Jensen Beach.  A question and answer session follows each talk.  The illustrated programs are free and open to the public.

Ronald Grenville Frazer, adjunct history professor at Indian River State College, has both a B.A. and M.Ed. in History and is a National Board Certified Teacher and member of Phi Alpha Theta.  He is a historian, guest lecturer and volunteer at The House of Refuge at Gilbert’s Bar in Stuart.  A 23-year veteran of the U.S. Army, Professor Frazerhas lived in Jensen Beach for the last nine years.
