Final Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Society concert of the season at Elisabeth Lahti Library April 26

Indiantown, FL – Saturday April 26 at Elisabeth Lahti Library, 15200 SW Adams Ave, Indiantown at 3pm, the Treasure Coast Classical Guitar Orchestra will present a free concert of classical guitar selections, running the gambit from Renaissance to Modern and serious to folksy arrangements. No tickets or reservations are needed.

The volunteer amateur orchestra is composed of many of the area’s teachers as well as students and has been playing together for two years in the community, performing at libraries and area nursing homes. Conductor Jamie Thomas has been with the orchestra for the past year.

Current orchestra members are Rowdy Carlton, Joette Giorgis, Ed DePool, Al Orlando, Bill Rice, Jay Harris, Sarah Coleman, Ann Ashworth, Jane Helsing, Freeman Sherrill, Bob Swinton, BJ Panong, Connor Shann and Jan Wissmuller.

Learn about the Mediterranean diet at Hoke Library April 19

The Hoke Library, 1150 NW Jack Williams Way, Jensen Beach, will be hosting Mohammad (“Mike”) Hussein Saturday, April 19 at 2pm, as he presents The Mediterranean Diet and Your Health, where he will talk about the health benefits of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern foods, and serve samples.

Mohammad (“Mike”) Hussein is the owner and proprietor of Planet Ozone and Tabuleh Café, the first “green” commercial building in Martin County.

Matthew Sabatella and the Rambling String Band to perform at Hoke Library February 21

Friday, February 21 at 6:30 pm, Matthew Sabatella and the Rambling String Band will present an evening of traditional American folk songs at the Hoke Library, 1150 NW Jack Williams Way, Jensen Beach, in partnership with Journey Stories.

The Rambling String Band features Matthew on vocals, guitar, banjo, and mountain dulcimer; Jack Stamates on fiddle; Chris DeAngelis on bass fiddle and vocals; Lynn Griffith on banjo, mandolin, and vocals; and Sean Edelson on mandolin and guitar. They maintain a consistent performance schedule at festivals, concert halls, performing arts centers, museums, nightclubs, coffeehouses, parks, libraries, and schools ranging from elementary through college.

Atlantic Classical Orchestra to present three-part concert series at Blake library beginning January 18

Beginning Saturday, January 18 at 11 am in the John F. Armstrong Wing of the Blake Library, 2351 SE Monterey Road, Stuart the Atlantic Classical Orchestra will present a Chamber Concert Series, part one titled Beethoven & Schubert Strings. Free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations required. This will be the first of a three-part series; a schedule follows:

Saturday, February 22

11am Chamber Series Concert II: American Tradition Piano Trio

Saturday, March 22

11am Chamber Series Concert III: iAN & Ani Tango Plus (cello and piano)

Founded in 1991, the Atlantic Classical Orchestra is a classical size orchestra with thirty-two to thirty-six professional players. The orchestra has a secure place in the cultural scene of the tri-county area, performing a series of concerts each year in Stuart and Vero Beach.

Free tax assistance available through April 12 at four Martin County libraries

Four branches of the Martin County Library System are offering free tax assistance now through April 12, 2013. The following locations and times are available:

Blake Library, Stuart
Monday  10am–7pm
Wednesday  10am–2pm
Thursday  10am–2pm
Friday   10am–2pm

Cummings Library, Palm City
Tuesday  10am–4pm
Thursday  10am–2pm

Hoke Library, Jensen Beach
Tuesday  10am–2pm
Wednesday  10am–2pm
Thursday  10am–2pm

Robert Morgade Library, Stuart
Monday  10am–2pm
Tuesday  10am–2pm
Friday   10am–2pm

All tax preparation is done on a first-come, first-served basis. Taxpayers are urged to ensure they have all required forms before arriving, including valid photo identification, social security card and the social security cards of any dependents. AARP Tax-Aide is a program of the AARP Foundation, offered in cooperation with the IRS and the Martin County Library System.
