Learn beginning ballroom dance steps Wednesdays in January at Hoke Library

Join the professional dancers from Save the First Dance studio for ballroom dance instruction 2:00-3:00 p.m. Wednesdays, January 9, 16, 23 and 30 at the Hoke Library, 1150 NW Jack Williams Way, Jensen Beach.

Learn the rumba and the nightclub two-step in this fun, four-part dance instruction program.  Partners are not necessary. 

Funded by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, the classes are free. Registration is required.  To register, please call 772-463-2870.

Martin County Library System is holding special events during its Adult Summer Reading Program, Between the Covers.  The fourth in the series, “Night Moves,” takes place Saturday, July 28 at 3:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Elisabeth Lahti Library, 15200 SW Adams Avenue, Indiantown.  Funded by the Friends of the Elisabeth Lahti Library of Indiantown, Florida, the event is free and open to the public.

Join the excitement as Alma Flores, traditional Latin folk dance teacher, presents dance instruction for “El Zapateado,” a traditional Latin dance marked by rhythmic tapping of the heels.  Partners are not necessary.

Attending “Night Moves” qualifies you to participate in a raffle for a gift basket that day.  Attending the July 28 program or any other special Adult Summer Reading Program event scheduled at Martin County community libraries through August 7 will qualify you to be registered for a grand prize drawing held August 13.

Children Can Explore Life in Rural Latin America with Storytelling,Dance, Music, Costumes

Dream Big, Read About the World—and Nicaragua—at Hoke Library June 23            
 
Marybeth Peña, RN, BSN, CDE, will present “Dream Big, Read About the World,” Saturday, June 23 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Hoke Library, 1150 N.W. Jack Williams Way, Jensen Beach 34957, as part of Martin County Library System’s Children’s Summer Reading Program.

The story “Nicaraguita” will be read by author Marybeth Peña.  Following the storytelling, children will have the opportunity to explore a day in the life of a child in rural Latin America through dance, music, costumes and a piñata. 

Funded by the Friends of the Hoke Library in Jensen Beach, Inc., the event is free and open to children entering grades K-5.  Pre-registration is required. Please call 772-463-2870 to register.

“Out of this World Summer Fun” Workshops Filling Up Fast – June 9 Blake, July 14 Hoke Library Registration Still Open

Space Available for Janeen Mason’s Out of This World Summer Fun Workshops at Blake and Hoke Libraries Only

 

Children entering grades 1-3 are invited to join national award-winning author/illustrator Janeen Mason as she brings to life her book “Going Around the Sun: Some Planetary Fun” on Saturday, June 9 from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. in the John F. Armstrong Wing of the Blake Library, 2351 S.E. Monterey Road, Stuart (772-221-1407) and Saturday, July 14 from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Hoke Library, 1150 NW Jack Williams Way, Jensen Beach (772-463-2870).  Part of Martin County Library System’s Children’s Summer Reading Program, these free workshops are funded by the six MCLS Friends groups, with advertising provided by the Library Foundation of Martin County. 

Pre-registration is required.  Please call the community library of your choice to register.  Please note:  Registration is full for Janeen’s 3:00 p.m. workshop on June 9 at the Elisabeth Lahti Library.  A waiting list has been started.

Written by another national award-winning local author, Marianne Berkes, “Going Around the Sun” is being featured in all Florida libraries this summer as a part of “Out of This World Summer Fun.”  In Janeen Mason’s workshops—June 9 at Blake Library and July 14 at the Hoke Library—children perform the roles of the planets for a song and dance routine in “costumes” Mason claims are one-size-fit-most, as they tilt and roll, whirl and spin to the lyrics.

Kids in the workshop will learn how Mason created the book illustrations from melted crayons, and they’ll surprise you with both the beautiful art they make together and their newfound knowledge of our solar system.

MCLS Adult Summer Reading Program Begins May 26, Promises Summer of Activities, Prizes, Reading and Photo Opportunities

Martin County Library System’s adult readers can spend this summer

“Between the Covers”                

    

Children have a summer reading program, teens have theirs, and adults have their own, too—Between the Covers!  Martin County Library System plans numerous activities for adults to take part in this summer.  In addition to reading opportunities and incentives, your days—and nights—will be filled with dancing, murder mystery, nature exploration, astronomy, trivia and altered books.  Program funding and prizes are provided by the six MCLS Friends groups.  All events are free and open to the public.

Attend one or more of the special events scheduled at Martin County community libraries from June 1 through August 7 and you will qualify to be registered for a prize at the end of summer drawing on August 13.  Or, beginning May 26, pick up an Adult Summer Reading Log at any Martin County library beginning May 26, log at least 10 hours of reading (listening) online at http://www.library.martin.fl.us or return it to the library to be entered in a drawing for the Adult Reading Prize featured at your home library.

Celebrate Children’s Day/Book Day— El dia de los niños/El dia de los libros—at the Elisabeth Lahti Library, 15200 SW Adams Avenue, Indiantown on Saturday, April 28 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day), is a celebration of children, families, and reading.  Many Children, Many Cultures, Many Books!  Come celebrate our cultural heritage as we talk about home remedies used by our mothers and grandmothers.  Learn a traditional dance called La Raspa as we look forward to Cinco de Mayo.   Refreshments will be served and crafts will be made!
