BeatrizMalnicTrio_DonWilner_BMalnic_MikeOrtaThe Beatriz Malnic Trio will present a one-hour concert Wednesday, July 31 at 3:00 pm at the Elisabeth Lahti Library, 15200 SW Adams Avenue, Indiantown. Brazilian singer Beatriz Malnic is accompanied by Mike Orta on piano and Don Wilner on upright bass for an afternoon of smooth, sensual bossa nova tunes. The trio will take the audience on a journey through Brazilian jazz in the United States, sambas and American numbers. Free and open to the public, tickets are not required.

Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Beatriz Malnic is a vocalist, arranger and the director of Brazilian Voices, a women’s vocal ensemble. She has performed and recorded with musical luminaries such as Al Di Meola, Nestor Torres, Toquinho and many others. In 2009, Malnic won an award for best Brazilian singer living in the United States and, in 2012, her latest album Chico Buarque by Beatriz Malnic won for best Brazilian CD released in the United States, both from the Brazilian International Press Awards.

Pianist Mike Orta was chosen as one of five finalists in the prestigious Great American Jazz Piano Competition. He has performed and/or recorded with some of the major names in jazz such as Randy Brecker, Michael Brecker and Conrad Herwig, to name a few. Orta is Associate Professor and Director of Jazz Performance at Florida International University teaching jazz piano and jazz improvisation. He also directs both jazz and Latin jazz ensembles.

Bassist Don Wilner performs in both the classical and jazz genres. He earned a doctorate in music, was principal bassist and a featured soloist with the Palm Beach Pops, and assistant principal bassist with the Miami City Ballet for many years. Named best jazz musician in 2000 in Miami New Times’ “Best of Miami” issue, Dr. Wilner originated, promoted and sustained the jazz music program at the Van Dyke Cafe for 13 years, which Miami New Times labeled as Miami’s best jazz club on numerous occasions.
