JudiSnyderRetirement2(STUART, FL) – Martin County Library System (MCLS) owes a lot to its hardworking staff. One most deserving individual is Judi Snyder, current Community Libraries Manager, who is retiring August 3 after nearly 34 years with the library system.

Judi has filled many positions during her time with MCLS. Beginning as a library page shelving books in 1979, she worked her way up to Library Manager in 1999. From there she became Associate Director for Library Public Services in 2005, and in 2012 was named Community Libraries Manager. She is most familiar to the community as being responsible for library events that included the wildly popular annual BookMania! festival and Chautauqua South arts and education series.

“My crowning achievement was not only creating BookMania!, but being responsible for producing an event that achieved national recognition for the Martin County Library System,” said Snyder. “Similarly, Chautauqua South is an amazing cultural and educational addition to our library system. It is truly a ‘Celebration of the Mind, Body and Spirit.’”

As the robust events calendar grew, so did Martin County Library System’s regional and national reputation. Under her direction and longtime creative partnership with the late Phil Kavanaugh, library stages were enlivened with exciting, high caliber performers and incomparable international festivals.

As manager of the Blake Library, Judi always kept staff in line and laughing with a warm, hands-on style and abundant humor. In addition, she ably took command of library operations countywide for 17 months as interim MCLS director while maintaining her other duties with grace.

On June 28, a retirement gathering in Judi’s honor took place in the John F. Armstrong Wing of the Blake Library in Stuart. A PowerPoint presentation projecting photos highlighting her career played throughout the event. Open to the public, scores of well-wishers attended to congratulate Judi.

“Judi loves this library system, the staff and our residents. She’s helped create much of what is great about the Martin County Library System. I want to thank her and wish her all the best in her next great adventure,” said Brett Lear, Library System Director.

“There is nowhere in the world I would have rather worked,” said Snyder. “I’ve had the opportunity to learn something new every single day, engage with our community and create programs and services that helped to improve the quality of life for the residents of Martin County.”

Judi Snyder has shown unflagging enthusiasm, passion and heart throughout her stay, and we can’t thank her enough for all she’s done for MCLS and the Martin County community. We salute you, Judi, and wish you all the best as you continue a full and adventurous life ahead.
