World champion high school students talk robots, STEM

S.P.A.M. FIRST Robotics Team 180 will host an open house demonstrating their competition robots on Thursday, June 27 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at the Robert Morgade Library, 5851 SE Community Drive on the Chastain Campus of Indian River State College, Stuart. Student team members will discuss the FIRST (For Inspiration and Respect of Science and Technology) Robotics program and competition, and robot construction.

S.P.A.M. (Student Programmers, Animators and Machinists) is a high school robotics team made up of students from the Martin County School District. The students are future engineers, teachers and designers being led by current professionals in the field. The group competes in robotics competitions organized by FIRST, giving students exposure to real-world engineering opportunities.

S.P.A.M. won the 2012 FIRST Robotics World Championship title. They have also won regional championships and have received numerous other accolades.
