Laurence Leamer, a bestselling author and journalist, discusses his latest book The Price of Justice: A True Story of Greed and Corruption on Thursday, June 6 at 6:00 p.m. in the John F. Armstrong Wing of the Blake Library, 2351 S.E. Monterey Road, Stuart. Books will be available for purchase and signing after the event. The event is free and open to the public.

The Price of Justice: A True Story of Greed and Corruption details the fourteen-year struggle of two lawyers, Dave Fawcett and Bruce Stanley, to bring the most powerful coal baron in American history, Don Blankenship, to justice. Blankenship and his company Massey Energy willfully disregarded safety standards in the company’s mines, resulting in multiple deaths.

Advance praise for Leamer’s newest book has been extensive. Author John Grisham says, “Laurence Leamer does a superb job of condensing this 15-year legal brawl into a highly readable and entertaining narrative. Greed, arrogance, injustice, corruption – it has it all, and, sadly, it’s all true. Fortunately, it also has some heroes. This is a book I wish I had written.”

Judge Ken Starr, President of Baylor University, calls it “a gripping, suspenseful page-turner that reads like fiction and reinforces— with sometimes shocking, tragic clarity— the necessity of a fair justice system for all. This is an important, compelling, powerful book.”
