Beginning June 1, the Martin County Library System’s (MCLS) Teen Summer Reading Program, Beneath the Surface, will be in full swing!

Open to students entering 6th through 12th grades, teens will enjoy prizes, movies, crafts, contests and events throughout the summer. Teens can even earn volunteer hours and a chance to win a GoPro video camera by submitting book reviews on the MCLS website until August 17! All summer reading events are free – read on for just a small sampling of what’s to come.

For the first time in MCLS’ history, teens can join the cast of a movie production! All budding actors, actresses, screen writers, directors and movie makers are invited to take part. Throughout June and July, participants will develop and star in a movie using resources available at the library. The movie will be shown at an official movie premiere at the Blake Library. If interested, please call Melanie at 772-221-1407.

The Hoke Library’s Annual Summer Reading Art Display gives teens the opportunity to showcase their art! Creations can be in any medium using the “Beneath the Surface” theme (no larger than 20”x20”) to be displayed all summer long. Be sure to include full name, age and phone number. Entries are sent to the Hoke Library – the earlier the better so everyone can enjoy the art!

Calling all artists ages 11 and up for the Robert Morgade Library Teen Art Fair! Get busy creating a work reflecting this year’s summer reading theme “Beneath the Surface.” Submissions will be accepted at the Robert Morgade Library beginning June 1 and should be appropriate for viewing in the library setting. All art will be on display in the Teen Zone. Winners will be decided by a ballot vote and announced on August 10. Please call 772-463-3245 for more information.

Summer Reading events, prizes and books for all ages are made possible with support from the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc., and the Library Foundation of Martin County, Inc.
