Join Dr. W. Jay Thompson on Saturday, May 18 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in celebrating the centennial of East Stuart’s history with his presentation “Remembering Our Roots: East Stuart Then and Now.” Dr. Thompson, founder of the East Stuart Historical Society, takes the audience on a multi-media journey of the people and events that have populated East Stuart from 1913-2013. The event, held at the Blake Library, located at 2351 SE Monterey Road, Stuart, is free and open to the public.

Along with Dr. Thompson, other prominent and/or long-time East Stuart residents will also be on hand to share first-person accounts of when and how their families first came to settle in the area, what it was like to grow up in Stuart and live through the segregation era, and how the city has changed throughout the years.

This presentation, one of several Journey Stories events for adults, is brought to you by a grant received from the Florida Humanities Council, to complement the Museum on Main Street: Journey Stories traveling exhibition presented by the Smithsonian Museum. The exhibit will be on display at the Elisabeth Lahti Library October 19 through November 30. Eighteen months of events exploring Journey Stories themes will take place at Martin County libraries leading up to and immediately following the Smithsonian exhibit.
