Local author discusses South Florida Indian folklore

Local author and historian Patrick S. Mesmer presents a discussion on the ancient Florida Indians, Seminole Wars and the early pioneer history of South Florida on Thursday, May 16 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. in the John F. Armstrong Wing of the Blake Library, 2351 S.E. Monterey Road, Stuart. The event is free and open to the public. 

Mesmer’s presentation includes audio and visual components and takes the audience on a journey through the beliefs of the indigenous Timicua, Calusa, Jeaga, AIS and Seminole groups – the Florida peninsula’s native people. He is the author of the book Haunted River Tales: 500 Years on the Locha-Hatchee.

Discover Science series for children set to begin May 15

The Peter & Julie Cummings Library, located at 2551 SW Matheson Avenue in Palm City, presents the children’s series Discover Science @ Your Library beginning Wednesday, May 15 from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. Taking place one Wednesday a month through December, the series is free and for children ages 6-12. The remaining dates are as follows: June 12, July 17, August 14, September 18, October 16, November 13 and December 18.

Join library staff in the Exploration Lab for fun, hands-on projects and learn easy ways to apply science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in an exciting environment! Registration is required by calling 772-288-2551. Space is limited to 20 participants each session.
