Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Elisabeth Lahti Library May 4

No time for a siesta, it’s time for a fiesta! Celebrate Cinco de Mayo, one of the world’s most fun holidays, at the Elisabeth Lahti Library, 15200 SW Adams Avenue, Indiantown, on Saturday, May 4 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc., this festive event is free and open to the public.   

Enjoy traditional Mexican food and live mariachi music by the four-man group Mariachi Pancho Villa of West Palm Beach. Holy Cross Group will also perform traditional folklórico dance demonstrations at 12:00 p.m. For more information call 772-597-4200.

Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, honoring the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War.

The Internet has made authors of us all. Learn the six most common punctuation and grammar mistakes and how not to make them with Liz Coursen’s workshop “Punctuation in the Internet Age: How to Edit Your Words Without Losing Your Mind” at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4. The event, held at the Peter & Julie Cummings Library, located at 2551 SW Matheson Avenue, Palm City, is free and open to the public. 

Are you an author or aspiring author? Do you edit a blog or newsletter? Do you occasionally hesitate over whether to use a comma or semicolon in a sentence? If so, this is the workshop to attend. Based on her style guide Self-Editing for the Self-Published Author, Liz Coursen will explain how to correct common errors and provide handouts and worksheets for each participant.

Celebrate El día de los niños/ El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day) with fairytale festival at Blake Library

Celebrate El día de los libros Fairytale Festival at the Blake Library, 2351 SE Monterey Road, Stuart, on Saturday, May 4 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Explore stories from around the world through food, games and activities. Bilingual storyteller, Carrie Sue Ayvar, will tell her mixture of traditional, international and personal tales. All ages are invited to attend this fun, free and interactive event. El día de los niños/ El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day) is an annual celebration of children, families and reading. It emphasizes the importance of advocating literacy for every child regardless of linguistic and cultural background.
