Kids and teens learn how to be money smart April 20-27

In celebration of Money Smart Week® the Martin County Library System is hosting eight special events at all six libraries geared toward educating children and teens on topics ranging from resumes and job interviews to managing a budget and understanding debit cards. These special events are as follows:

Blake Library, 2351 SE Monterey Rd., Stuart

  • Wednesday, April 24 at 3:00 p.m., Kids Get Money Smart – Wannado City is the inspiration for these real-life lessons. Kids learn the basic principles of money, saving and banking with a pretend job, bank and real estate. Free giveaways and a craft! Registration is required by calling 772-221-1407. Limit 20 participants.

Elisabeth Lahti Library, 15200 SW Adams Ave., Indiantown

  • Tuesday, April 23 at 3:00 p.m., Kids Get Money Smart Children in grades K–5 learn the basic principles of managing money, saving and banking by making choices pertaining to needs and wants. They will choose a pretend job, house and car. Free giveaways and a craft!
  • Wednesday, April 24 at 4:30 p.m., Teens Get Money Smart Students in grades 5–12 will get the preparation they need to face their own financial futures. Runa Saunders, Assistant Vice President/Branch Manager of Harbor Community Bank, will teach the practical aspects of banking including how to write checks, opening and managing checking and savings accounts and understanding debit cards.

Hobe Sound Public Library, 10595 SE Federal Hwy., Hobe Sound

  • Saturday, April 27 at 1:00 p.m., TD Bank Presents: The WOW!Zone (Kids) – April Stiller, a TD Bank instructor, will educate children in grades 3–7 in the basic principles of money, saving and banking using their WOW!Zone program. Free giveaways and a craft! Registration is required by calling 772-546-2257. Limit 60 participants.

Hoke Library, 1150 NW Jack Williams Way, Jensen Beach

  • Friday, April 26 at 6:00 p.m., Kids Get Money Smart Wannado City is the inspiration for these real-life lessons. Kids learn the basic principles of money, saving and banking with a pretend job, bank and real estate. Free giveaways and a craft! Registration is required by calling 772-463-2870. Limit 20 participants

Peter & Julie Cummings Library, 2551 SW Matheson Ave., Palm City

  • Saturday, April 20 at 11:00 a.m., TD Bank Presents: The WOW!Zone (Kids) – April Stiller, a TD Bank instructor, will educate children in grades 3–7 in the basic principles of money, saving and banking using their WOW!Zone program. Free giveaways and a craft! Registration is required by calling 772-288-2551. Limit 60 participants.
  • Friday, April 26 at 4:30 p.m., Money Smart Week for Teens! – Students in grades 8–12 will get the preparation they need to face their own financial futures. April Stiller, a TD Bank instructor, will teach the practical aspects of banking including opening and managing a checking account, planning a budget for work or college and understanding ATM cards and lines of credit. Refreshments will be served.

Robert Morgade Library, 5851 SE Community Dr., Stuart

  • Thursday, April 25 at 6:00 p.m., Teens Get Money Smart Looking to earn extra money at an after school job, but not sure how to begin? Career Coach, Jodi Hessing, will present an informative workshop on resumes, professional appearance and interviewing. Also learn more about Workforce Solutions’ Youth Connections program. Registration is required by calling 772-463-3245. Limit 40 participants.
