New Monrovia community featured at Robert Morgade Library

Celebrating the Harvest of the Mind, Body and Spirit

Dr. W. Jay Thompson presents “From the Roots of New Monrovia” on Tuesday, March 26 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Robert Morgade Library. Dr. Thompson shares a historical reflection of the New Monrovia subdivision through word and music. Free and open to the public, the event covers the educational, cultural and social aspects of this African-American community of Port Salerno from 1913-2013. 

Dr. Thompson founded the East Stuart Historical Society in 1990. He was also named Martin County School District’s Teacher of the Year in 1987.

A part of the Martin County Library System’s Chautauqua South arts and education series, the event is sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc. The Robert Morgade Library is located at 5851 S.E. Community Drive on the Chastain Campus of Indian River State College, Stuart.
