Belle Glade culture events continue with A Pot Only a Mother Could Love March 14 at Robert Morgade Library

Celebrating the Harvest of the Mind, Body & Spirit

DATE:  FEBRUARY 26, 2013

Katie Higgins combines pottery and archaeology in her presentation A Pot Only a Mother Could Love on Thursday, March 14 at 6:00 p.m. in the Anderson Community Room of the Robert Morgade Library, 5851 S.E. Community Drive on the Chastain Campus of Indian River State College, Stuart.  Based on the archaeological record of the ancient Belle Glade culture and through Higgins’ use of ceramic replications, participants will observe how the vessels would have looked many years ago. The presentation also showcases how the unique pottery would have been created, focusing on the various tempers added into the clay and the types of tools used.
This event is brought to you by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc., to complement the We Were Here Viva Florida 500 traveling exhibition presented by the Lawrence E. Will Museum: A Museum of the Belle Glades, on display at the Robert Morgade Library in Stuart, March 4-23. Viva Florida 500 is a yearlong celebration of Ponce de Leon’s arrival on Florida’s shores and the following 500 years of history.
