Dr. Rachel K. Wentz explores prehistoric use of fire in Florida Feb. 28 at Robert Morgade Library

Dr. Rachel K. Wentz discusses the extensive utilization of fire among Florida’s Native Americans on February 28 at 6:00 p.m. at the Robert Morgade Library, 5851 S.E. Community Drive on the Chastain Campus of Indian River State College, Stuart. Dr. Wentz’s lecture examines how prehistoric Floridians relied heavily on fire and how it affected and shaped their lives. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Dr. Wentz is the East Central Regional Director of the Florida Public Archaeology Network. She graduated from Florida State University with a Ph.D. in Anthropology, is on the board of the Florida Archaeological Council and is a Brevard County Historical Commissioner.

Prehistoric Use of Fire is one of several Belle Glade Culture events for adults, and is brought to you by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc., to complement the We Were Here Viva Florida 500 traveling exhibition presented by the Lawrence E. Will Museum: A Museum of the Belle Glades, on display at the Robert Morgade Library March 4-23.
