Join us at the Blake Library, 2351 S.E. Monterey Road, Stuart, on Saturday, February 9 for a Chinese New Year Celebration presented by students from the Jensen Beach High School Chinese Club and featuring activities for both adults and children. Sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, the event is free and open to the public.

At 2:00 p.m. in the John F. Armstrong Wing see a prize-winning 1994 Taiwanese film directed by Ang Lee with English subtitles. Renowned chef Chu (Sihung Lung) is a widower living with his three grown daughters. He struggles to strengthen their family ties while dealing with their romantic pursuits, their professional success, and their struggle for independence in this sentimental look at a modern Chinese family. This movie won the Golden Bear Prize from Berlin International Film Festival, the Best Picture from the Asia-Pacific Film Festival, and an Oscar Nomination for Best Foreign Language Picture. The movie is rated PG-13 and runs two hours and four minutes.

From 3:00-5:00 p.m. in the second floor Exploration Lab children will enjoy arts and a craft, a story time and a Chinese calligraphy demonstration. Children will be introduced to Chinese New Year customs and learn some basic Chinese greetings in Chinese Lesson 101.
