Helen Sagan to present Discover Opera lecture series beginning Jan. 15 at Blake Library

Helen Sagan, a retired music teacher and member of Boston’s renowned Chorus pro Musica, will present a three-part “Discover Opera” lecture series from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, January 15, February 12 and March 12 in the John F. Armstrong Wing of the Blake Library, 2351 SE Monterey Road, Stuart.  Using humor and anecdotes about opera stars as well as DVD excerpts with English translations, Sagan’s presentation is for all those interested in learning more about opera. The programs are free and open to the public.

Sagan has been giving opera lectures for more than 16 years and is a performer herself. As a member of the Boston’s renowned Chorus pro Musica, she has been in numerous staged and concert operas, appearing with such stars as Joan Sutherland, Leontyne Price, James McCracken and Jerry Hadley as well as Sarah Caldwell’s Opera Company of Boston. This will be Sagan’s third year of presenting opera lectures at the Blake Library.
