In 2013, Florida will reach a significant milestone, the 500th anniversary of Juan Ponce de León’s arrival on Florida’s east coast. To help celebrate, teenagers may showcase their artistic talents by producing art pieces on the theme of Florida history. Artwork can be in any medium, but must be limited in size to no larger than 20″x20″ and include the artists’ full name, age and contact information on the back of the art.

The Viva Florida 500 Teen Art Fair is open to students in grades 6-12. Entries will be accepted Wednesday, January 2 – Thursday, February 28 at the Robert Morgade Library located at 5851 S.E. Community Drive on the Chastain Campus of Indian River State College, Stuart.  For library hours and further details, please call (772) 463-3245.

Through the month of March, the library will display the artwork in its Anderson Community Room.  There it will be judged by those who view the Belle Glade culture exhibit. Winners will be notified the first week of April.

This event is brought to you by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc., to complement the We Were Here Viva Florida 500 traveling exhibition presented by the Lawrence E. Will Museum: A Museum of the Belle Glades, on display at the Robert Morgade Library March 4-23.
