For immediate release:  December 19, 2012
Contact:  Marian Heitzman,  Martin County Library System, Public Relations,

Josh Liller, a former reference library assistant and lifelong history aficionado, will present the next talk in his historical illustrated lecture series Friday, January 11 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Cummings Library, 2351 S.W. Matheson Road, Palm City.

While Grant planned operations against Vicksburg and Lee invaded Maryland, Confederate armies under Braxton Bragg and Edmund Kirby Smith, a native of St. Augustine, invaded Kentucky.  The invasion caused panic in the North, but mostly failure for the South.  This campaign led to a new Union commander, William Rosecrans, and major battle on New Year’s Eve 1862 at Stones River – a bloodier battle than Shiloh.

Funded by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, the event is free and open to the public.
