Grandparent seminar on raising grandchildren, finding balance and managing the stress Jan. 15 at Hobe Sound Public Library

The fifth of eight presentations in the Our Kids! Parent Seminar Series scheduled at Martin County libraries through April 2013 will be Grandparents – The New Parent! on Tuesday, January 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Hobe Sound Public Library, 10595 S.E. Federal Highway, Hobe Sound. In this fun and interactive evening, Janice Maier, MSW, Tykes & Teens, will examine the unique challenges facing today’s grandparents who find themselves in the unenviable role of parenting again. Maier has worked 16 years for Tykes & Teens. She was a mentor with Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Martin/Palm Beach County for eight years and was named Big Sister of the Year 2012 and Children’s Services Council of Martin County’s Mentor of the Year 2012. Maier also was a past facilitator of a “Grandparents Raising Grandchildren” support group for three years.

The free event is presented in collaboration with the Children’s Services Council of Martin County, WellMed, CHARACTER COUNTS!, a program of United Way of Martin County, the Martin County Library System, the Martin County School District, Tykes & Teens, and the United Way of Martin County.
