Award-winning children’s book author and storyteller

Marianne Berkes to appear at Blake Library October 11

Martin County Library System will present a special story time with award-winning children’s book author Marianne Berkes on Thursday, October 11 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. in the second floor Exploration Lab at the Blake Library, 2351 S.E. Monterey Road, Stuart.  The event is free and open to the public.

Ages 4-8 are invited to listen to Berkes read from her two new books, The Tree That Bear Climbed and Over in the Forest: Come and Take a Peek, and then to participate in a fun craft. Books will be available for sale and autographing. Registration is not required.

Written in cumulative verse, The Tree That Bear Climbed lends itself to further discussion with fun repetition and picture clues, stimulating a child’s curiosity. It also teaches the interdependence of nature and answers questions such as, “How do bees make honey?” and “How does a tree grow?” Over in the Forest: Come and Take a Peek introduces children to a woodland habitat with cut paper illustrations that encourage readers to leap like a squirrel, build like a beaver, and pounce like a fox.

Marianne Berkes’ 12 picture books are in libraries across the country and cover topics that include Australia, animal migration, the Arctic, planets, the jungle, seashells, and life in a marsh.
