Florida Oceanographic Society to Present

“Lights Out: Sea Turtles” at Hoke Library June 1

Martin County Library System will hold six special events, funded by the six MCLS Friends Groups, throughout the library system as part of its adult summer reading program, Between the Covers.  The first, “Lights Out: Sea Turtles,” takes place Friday, June 1 at 5:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Hoke Library, 1150 NW Jack Williams Way, Jensen Beach.

In this one-hour talk, presented by Florida Oceanographic Society’s Education and Exhibit Specialist Michelle Byriel, you will learn about the three nesting sea turtles common to the Martin County/Jensen Beach area.  The talk will cover environmental concerns with their populations and the importance of keepings beaches dark for successful sea turtle nesting.  Also included in the discussion will be details about the Florida Oceanographic Society beach walk program that looks at and marks sea turtle nests.  A book display will accompany the discussion.

Attending “Lights Out: Sea Turtles” or any of the other special Adult Summer Reading Program events scheduled at Martin County community libraries through August 7 will qualify you to be registered for a prize at a drawing held August 13.  Events are free and open to the public.  For details pick up an Adult Summer Reading flier/Summer Reading Log at any Martin County Library, visit the library website at or call (772) 221-1403.
