MCLS Teen Summer Reading Program – You Are Here!

WHO:             Program funding provided by the six MCLS Friends groups. Prizes and advertising have been provided by the Library Foundation of Martin County, Inc.

 

WHAT:           Teen Summer Reading Program – You Are Here

Starting June 11, Martin County Library System’s Teen Summer Reading Program is in full swing! Submit book reviews on our website, http://www.library.martin.fl.us, until August 14 to earn volunteer hours or win raffle tickets for an iPod Touch. The Teen Summer Reading Program is open to students entering 6th through 12th grades

Cummings Library Teen Photography Contest: Show Us Your World  

Beginning June 1

Who can enter: Any Martin County resident between the ages of 12 and 17 may submit one photograph to be judged.  (Photos will not be returned.)

 What is the theme:  The photo should capture your favorite part about being a teenager in Martin County. It must be appropriate for viewing in the library setting. 

How is it judged: Judges include local photographer Deborah Silver from the Stuart News and others. Each judge will score each photograph based on the technical skills displayed and the content of the photograph. Along with the photograph, you must submit your name and contact information as well as the type of camera used.

When is it due: All submissions should be submitted by August 1 to the Cummings Library, 2551 S.W. Matheson Avenue, in Palm City. Winners will be announced by August 15. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place photographs.

Hoke Library You Are Here Teen Art Exhibition

All artists will have the opportunity to display their art at the Hoke Library throughout the summer. Art should include

the theme and adhere to the size limit. All art mediums are accepted. Please write name, age and contact info on the back of art.

Grades:  6-12

Entry deadline:  Saturday, July 2, 5:30 p.m. (or before)

Theme:  “You Are Here”

Size limit:  20″ x 20″

Teens will get a chance to give their input on library movies, programming, events and even a newsletter! Let your voice be heard! Help us plan teen programs and activities. It’s your library—make a difference and earn volunteer hours. TAB will meet the first Tuesday of every month from 6-7pm. Open to grades 6-12. Please stop by the library to fill out a volunteer application.

Teens who are 12 and up are invited to drop by the library and make a decoupage collage box. Transform a simple paper box into something neat with old magazines and the magic of decoupage glue. Food and drink will be provided.

Art Van Go Studio takes you to the Australian outback! Listen to flute-like didgeridoo music as you use the traditional dot patterns of the Aborigines to create your own visual story of “Goorialla,” the Rainbow Serpent, using oil pastels on textured paper. *Pre-registration is required. This book club is open to all middle and high school students who are interested in reading “One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia. Written in 2010, “One Crazy Summer is the winner of the Newbery Award, Coretta Scott King Award, and was a National Book Award Finalist. Bring an old pair of jeans/jean shorts and transform them into a comfy, stylish pillow. We’ll supply a variety of trim, ribbons, buttons, charms and glitter. Add your own belt, key rings, etc. Snacks will be served. Grades 6-12.
