WHAT:   Altered Books Lecture and Workshop

Making altered books has become a popular project for all levels, from beginners to seasoned artist.  Learn about altered books in an introductory lecture and then try your hand at creating your own at the Blake Library.

1) Introduction to Altered Books

What is an altered book?  Join us for a visual presentation of examples of altered books created by contemporary artists who change books by adding, subtracting or altering their appearance and meaning.  Get ideas for the May 14 Altered Book Workshop or just enjoy the limitless ways a book—with or without its cover or contents—can become a work of art.

2) Altered Book Workshop with Mary Segal

Vero Beach artist Mary Segal invites you to explore the imaginative and popular craft of altered books using various media and techniques.  Free basic materials including safety scissors, glues, gesso and brushes will be supplied. Participants are encouraged to bring additional items such as hardcover book
of choice (some discarded books will be available), personal photos, found objects, photocopies, paints, pens, cloth, etc.

For adults of all skill levels (ages 16 and up).  Attendance at May 12 lecture is not required for workshop participation.  Pre-registration is required.  Please call 772-288-5400, ext. 8561.

1) Lecture:  Thursday, May 12, 6:30 p.m.

2) Workshop: Saturday, May 14, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
