Mariana Martin and Don Wilner, Bossa Nova and Jazz

In a match made in heaven, classical and jazz double bassist Don Wilner will join Brazilian singer and guitarist Mariana Martin in a program of bossa nova and jazz Saturday, April 16 at 4:00 p.m. at the Elisabeth Lahti Library in Indiantown. One of the final programs in Martin County Library System’s 2011 Chautauqua South arts and education series, the performance is free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations are required.
Jazz singer and songwriter Mariana Martin uses the haunting power of her inner world to create evocative works of musical art in this one-hour concert. A protégé of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Mariana began singing professionally in her native Rio de Janeiro as a teenage prodigy. What makes Mariana different from other artists is her ability to take her inspiration from artists that she admires and assimilate these influences into her own style.

Bassist Don Wilner performs in both classical and jazz genres and has a Doctorate in Music.  He taught at the University of Miami and was the Principal Bassist and a featured soloist with the Palm Beach Pops and the Assistant Principal Bassist with the Miami City Ballet for many years. For ten consecutive years he was music director of what is considered the most reputable jazz club in Miami Beach, the Van Dyke, where audiences would keep returning to hear him and Mariana perform with pianist Mike Orta.
