Wildfire Threat:  Martin County Residents Can

Learn How to Protect Their Homes

Martin County – The Florida Division of Forestry is presenting How to Have a Firewise Home on Saturday April 16, 2011, 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Hobe Sound Public Library, 10595 SE Federal Highway, Hobe Sound, FL  33455. The workshop is designed to help homeowners learn how to best protect their homes from wildfire. Everyone is welcome to come to this free workshop, and snacks will be provided.

Many Martin County residents live near natural areas. While these natural areas are part of what makes Martin County a great place to live, there is also a wildfire hazard potential. Fire is a natural part of Florida. Come learn simple things that you can do to make your home and community more wildfire safe.

Workshop topics will include: how to know if you are at risk for wildfire, why homes burn, fire’s natural role in Florida, Firewise construction and landscaping, and the national Firewise Communities/USA program. Representatives from the Florida Division of Forestry will be on hand to discuss this important issue and to answer questions. Everyone will get free materials and Firewise items. Please register by calling Lynn Warner at 772-219-4975, or online at For additional information contact Elise Cassie, Workshop Coordinator, at 352-359-0722 or

Presented in cooperation with the Martin County Library System ( Firewise workshops are coordinated by Normandeau Associates (formerly Pandion Systems, Inc.). Firewise Florida is made possible by the Florida Division of Forestry.
