Libraries to Present Oceans of Fun Family Events This Summer!

Martin County Library System rolls out oceans of exciting

summer children’s events!

WHO:                    Program funding provided by the six MCLS Friends groups. All books, prizes and advertising have been provided by the Library Foundation of Martin County, Inc.

Transform into Egyptologists! Join a South Florida Science Museum educator on a journey to the past and unlock the secrets of Egypt with this hands-on lab. Explore replica artifacts and utilize the scientific method to determine the culture, religion, and daily lifestyle of Ancient Egyptians. THE FROG PRINCE: Puppets To Go

In this enchanting, updated version of the classic fairy tale, Wanda the Witch casts a spell on the handsome prince, turning him into a frog. To break the spell, he now must be kissed by a beautiful princess. Bob Nathanson’s beautifully designed puppets and music, which will evoke a wide range of moods, enhance this production.

Does your child have a way with words? Would you like to spark a love of literature that will last a lifetime? Join instructor Janet Church for this one-of-a-kind workshop, filled with beach-themed books, learn-by-example activities, and plenty of good old-fashioned fun. When it comes to creative storytelling, it’s never too early to start.  For children ages 7-10.

Jeanette Mazzella, Jazzercise instructor, will focus on teaching the children some simple movements in this 45-minute program. She will begin with stretches and then some basic strength movements. The children will then use these movements to dance to a junior choreographed routine. Jeanette will also do a brief FUN presentation on nutrition with the children involved. Wear comfortable clothing suitable for physical activity and Fun! Boys and girls ages 6 and up are welcome.

FISH ‘N’ SHIPS: Curious Moon Puppets

No one has ever been able to solve the mystery of what is haunting the old, sunken pirate ship. And none of the other fish in school believes that amateur detective Fry can solve the mystery either. With encouragement from the audience, and armed with his Deepwater Detective badge and Ocean Floor Trail Guide, Fry sets out on a journey across the ocean to find the ship and what is haunting it. Children of all ages will enjoy this entertaining shadow show.

Children’s Summer Reading Incentive Program Begins June 12

            Make a Splash at Martin County Libraries This Summer!!

This year’s theme for the children’s Summer Reading Program is Make a Splash—READ!  Martin County Library System promises preschool- through middle school-age children an ocean full of activities throughout the summer—stories, crafts, workshops and performances.

Jump into the fun!  There’ll be Hawaiian dancing, an Egyptian adventure, African drumming, creative writing, puppet shows, bingo, cartooning, wild animals and more!  For information on these and other great family programs pick up a Library Connection or a summer reading flier at any Martin County library or visit www.library.martin.fl.us.

The reading program begins June 12.  To participate and receive rewards for reading, visit Children’s World to pick up a reading log.  You can win prizes, books and even a super-cool back-to-school lunch bag!   You’ll get a sticker for each day you read or listen to a story for more than 20 minutes.  The more days you read, the more prizes you win! 

  • Read one day and pick one draw from the Children’s World treasure chest.
  • Read five days and win one book and one draw.
  • Read 10 days, win one draw; 15 days, one book.
  • Read 20 days and win one book and one draw.
  • Read 30 days and win one lunch bag (one per child, please).

 

This reading incentive program ends after you pass 30 days, or August 14—just before school starts—but we encourage you to keep diving into books all summer long!

MARTIN COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM CLOSED MAY 31

IN OBSERVANCE OF MEMORIAL DAY

All branches of the Martin County Library System including will be closed Monday, May 31 in observance of Memorial Day.  Normal operating hours will resume Tuesday, June 1.

Because of increased volume of circulation all book drops will be locked on this and all other official county holidays.  No materials will be due and no fines will accrue on closed days.
