The Mayan Calendar and “2012”: A Passage in Time

Presented by Susan L. Wallace, Ph.D.

Dr. Susan L. Wallace, adjunct professor of history at Indian River State College, will present “The Mayan Calendar and “2012”: A Passage in Time” 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 16 in the John F. Armstrong Wing of the Blake Library, 2351 SE Monterey Road in Stuart,  as part of the Chautauqua South IRSC Professor Series.

Dr. Wallace will discuss the phenomenon of the alignment of the Earth with the center of our Milky Way Galaxy, popularly referred to as the “2012,” and its many interpretations. Predicted since ancient time, this astronomical occurrence is said to culminate in December 2012. In numbers of publications and visual media presentations, questions are asked as to what this might mean for the future of mankind and the Earth—are we entering a period of expanded human awareness, or approaching Armageddon and the end of the world?
