Brazilian Music Trio to Perform March 18 at Blake Library

WHAT:                 Chautauqua South: Bossa Jazz, Brazilian Music Trio

Brazilian music trio Bossa Jazz will perform 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 18 in the John F. Armstrong Wing of the Blake Library, 2351 SE Monterey Road, Stuart. Group members are guitarist Claudio Spiewak, singer Mariana Martin and pianist Gabriel Saientz. The program is free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations are required.

Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, accomplished guitarist Claudio Spiewak has worked with renowned artists such as Julio Iglesias, Shakira, Nestor Torres, Bebel Gilberto, Roberto Perera, the Florida Philharmonic and many others. His influences include bossa nova, samba, jazz, Latin, flamenco and pop/rock. Visit his Web site, www.claudioguitar.com.

Mariana Martin was also born in Rio de Janeiro. Now based in Miami, she takes her inspiration from artists she admires, assimilating these influences from an amazing blend of different cultures to create her personal and intimate bossa nova style.

Award-winning pianist Gabriel Saientz was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He began studying piano at six and at the age of 14 was performing professionally as a pianist/keyboardist. He has played around the United States and with well-known artists such as Sheila E., Arturo Sandoval, Nestor Torres, Thalia, Shalim, Gloria Estefan, Gianmarco, Roberto Perera, Maridalia (Juan Luis Guerra), Melton Mustafa, John Fedchock and many others.

Ken Burns documentary, Mark Twain

Presented by Jackie Williams

Jackie Williams will present Mark Twain, the Ken Burns documentary of the life, work and history of the celebrated writer and humorist, in two parts:  2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 18 and March 25 in the John F. Armstrong Wing of the Blake Library, 2351 SE Monterey Road, Stuart.

 Nearly 20 well-known writers and scholars discuss Twain, shedding light on his extraordinary life and enduring legacy. Burns drew from a massive amount of material including thousands of archival photographs for this entertaining PBS film series, which took almost three years to complete.

Jackie Williams retired from MCTV Channel 20in 2008. She continues, as a volunteer, to produce and host the station’s “Pets on Parade” show, done in collaboration with the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast. She now works as a freelance writer and currently is working as a consultant and writer on projects that eventually will become part of the new Elliott Museum.  Jackie is the author of one book, Playing from the Rough: The Women of the LPGA Hall of Fame.
