PowerPoint program and Talk: View from Both Sides of the Florida Straits

One of the many children brought to the United States from Cuba as part of the Pedro Pan project, Cristina de la Vega grew up in Belle Glade and West Palm Beach. Looking for a connection to her homeland de la Vega turned to the natural landscapes of her adopted country, continually inspired by Florida’s wide open spaces. She paints untouched, wild places, capturing accurate accounts of time and place as well as the poetry of the landscape. Concerned with modern society’s growing disassociation with the natural world, Cristina uses her paintings to address the disappearance of the wilderness. Through her landscape paintings she reconnects her viewers with the environment in its natural state. Cristina received a B.A. in Fine Arts at Florida State University and was awarded the 2009 Hispanic Artist of the Year by Florida Governor Charlie Crist.
