WHO: The Friends of the Blake Library, Inc, sponsor, in support of the Martin County Library System
WHAT: CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION: YEAR OF THE DRAGON
Martin County Library System, in partnership with Jensen Beach High School, will present a Chinese New Year celebration with events and activities for both adults and children February 9 at the Blake Library in Stuart.
The celebration includes screening of a well-known movie followed by refreshments and a documentary film on Chinese culture in the John F. Armstrong Wing. Children of all ages will enjoy numerous activities upstairs in Children’s World.
Chinese art depicting Zodiac animals will be on display along with cultural projects by Jensen Beach High School students. A schedule follows.
Thursday, February 9 – Blake Library, John F. Armstrong Wing:

7:00 p.m. Short film, Greeting the Lunar New Year on Taiwan (48 min.) (with subtitles)
The Lunar New Year is the most important Chinese festival in the Chinese culture. Chinese people live the traditions passed down through thousands of years that bind generations of family together. It represents everything that the Chinese people are: their religious, ethical, social, culinary and artistic beliefs.

7:00 p.m. Children’s program
Children of all ages will enjoy arts and crafts, a story time, calligraphy demonstration and basic Chinese language mini-lessons.
