Martin County Library System and the Miami Dolphins Celebrate

Summer Reading Programs

In conjunction with the statewide Florida Library Youth Program (FLYP), the Martin County Library System and the Miami Dolphins have continued their partnership for this year’s summer reading program.

Now in its fourth year, the Martin County Library System and Dolphins partnership encourages children to use their libraries for recreation and continued learning while school is not in session. In 2010, over 950,000 children, teens and adults participated statewide in the FLYP Summer Reading Program, which includes over 13,000 locally.

“Being active participants in the community is one of our core commitments,” said Ilona Wolpin, Senior Director of Community Relations for the Miami Dolphins. “We are excited about the opportunity for the Dolphins to make a positive impact in literacy across the state of Florida and look forward to our continued work with the Martin County Library System and their wonderful summer reading program.”

The Miami Dolphins Foundation is co-sponsoring the summer reading program by providing public libraries with prizes to support the Department of State’s One World, Many Stories summer reading theme. The Department of State’s Division of Library and Information Services has coordinated the Florida Library Youth Program for over 40 years. The program promotes the retention and growth of students’ reading skills during the summer break. Participants of all ages enjoy fun activities, special guest performances, presentations, crafts and more at Florida’s public libraries. Children, teens and adults who participate in their local libraries’ summer programs may receive Miami Dolphins sports memorabilia, game tickets and visits by players and cheerleaders.

For more information about Martin County Library System’s summer reading program, pick up a flier or Library Connection at any Martin County library, visit the library website at http://www.library.martin.fl.us or call (772) 221-1403.
