There’s a world of adventure waiting at Martin County libraries this summer–

including prizes for reading!

This year’s theme for the children’s Summer Reading Program is One World, Many Stories.  Martin County Library System promises preschool- through middle school-age children a world of activities throughout the summer.  In addition to stories and crafts, there’ll be programs featuring art, animals, archaeology, balloons, bookmaking, creative writing, dancing, magic, music, puppets and more!  For information on these and other great family programs pick up a Library Connection or a summer reading flier at any Martin County library or visit http://www.library.martin.fl.us.

The reading program begins June 11.  To participate and receive rewards for reading, visit Children’s World to pick up a reading log.  You can win prizes, books and even a super-cool, color-changing water bottle!   You just need to log in each day you read or listen to a story for more than 20 minutes.  The more days you read, the more prizes you win!

  • Read one day and pick one draw from the Children’s World treasure chest.
  • Read five days and win one book and one draw.
  • Read 10 days, win one draw; 15 days, one book.
  • Read 20 days and win one book and one draw.
  • Read 30 days and win one color-changing water bottle (one per child, please).

This reading incentive program ends after you pass 30 days, or August 14—just before school starts—but we encourage you to keep reading all summer long!

WHO:             Martin County Library System and Library Friends Groups

WHAT:            Adult Summer Reading Program:  Novel Destinations Book Swap ’n’ Talk

Not all the fun things happening during summer at the Martin County Library System are for kids—adults can have reading adventures, too!

Join us June 18, July 16 and August 13 at the Blake Library for Novel Destinations Book Swap ’n’ Talk, an informal opportunity to meet new friends, browse newly added titles and talk about books you have recently read.  Participation during the program includes raffle tickets for tote bags, pre-publication copies of upcoming titles to be released and other goodies.  Refreshments will be served.

While you’re reading this summer, you’re invited to submit adult book reviews through the library’s website.  Go to http://www.library.martin.fl.us, click on “Read, Watch & Listen,” then “Submit an Adult Book Review.”  Add as much or as little information as you like—just don’t give away the ending!  Beginning June 11 the first 20 to submit reviews will receive a Novel Destinations tote bag filled with reading essentials.  To be part of the book review raffle, please include your name, book title, author and email address.  Submissions will be accepted June 11 through August 14.

All who attend a Book Swap ’n’ Talk session or submit book reviews are eligible to participate in the end-of-summer raffle drawing.  The grand prize is a Nook Color ™.  Second-place prize is an Apple® iPod touch for downloading audio and eBooks as well as other applications.
